Annual Appeal Letter
"There are some places you love with your heart, and there are some places that you love with your mind- the places that you love with both are called 'libraries'" ~Frank Delaney
Dear Library Supporter,
What beloved public institution circulates as many materials every day as FedEx, surpasses Netflix in DVD circulation --- and is free and accessible to all?
That’s right, it’s your public library! Where else can you download audio books, music, and videos; attend a unique cultural event; and find the right answer to a nagging question without muddling through thousands of Google entries? The library does a yeoman’s job of serving the needs of the public, regardless of one’s age, income level or educational achievement.
In Southwest Washington we are fortunate to have the very successful Timberland Regional Library District (TRL) supporting 27 libraries in 5 counties. It is currently experiencing a dramatic surge in the number of patron visits, library card applications, and requests to use a computer. Yet just when the need is greatest, the library system is faced with alarming budget cuts.
The Timberland Regional Library Foundation, an independent 501 (c) 3 organization, is addressing this challenging situation. We are working diligently to raise much-needed awareness and funds to support our library system. This year, we contributed resources to TRL’s Family Read Aloud, Summer Reading Program for kids, and Timberland Reads Together. In addition, we initiated two new events: Passport to Timberland and Scrabble-Thon which generated many new friends as well as much-needed funds.
Think of the many gifts that libraries have given you and your family over the years. If your life has been enriched by a library, please consider “giving back” as suggested below:
- A Gift of Charity in the name of a friend or loved one. We will send an acknowledgment card to honor the appropriate event, whether it’s the winter solstice, holiday season, birthday, or simply a way to express appreciation to a special person.
- An end-of-the-year donation to the Timberland Regional Library Foundation to help us continue our important work.
Both options are tax-deductible and can be initiated from your home. Your personal check can be mailed to the Foundation (Timberland Regional Library Foundation, 415 Tumwater Blvd. SW, Tumwater, WA 98501) or visit our website at www.trlfoundation.org and click on “Donate Now” at the bottom of the home page or the “Gifts of Charity” link on the right side.
On behalf of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, thank you for your consideration. Help us preserve our most cherished of institutions. Together, we can make a difference!
Sincerely,
Timberland Regional Library Foundation
